International Women’s Day was celebrated with much fanfare this year and here at IWF we were no different. Firstly our exclusive Sports club was launched and we had a great day inviting women to come and join in some taster sessions of fencing, football and boxing.
Secondly, our Bradford’s Inspirational Women Awards was re-launched and is returning to celebrate and recognise the achievements of women across the district.
The awards were founded by Fatima Patel in 2012, to recognise the achievements and celebrate Bradford’s Women. The awards had three successful years recognising a multitude of women of various backgrounds and from various walks of life. Sadly, Fatima had to step down from running the awards due to ill health, but the organisation continued to run as the Inspirational Woman Foundation a community interest company which looks to support and empower women.
The official nominations for the awards were unveiled and announced open on International Women’s Day by Bradford West MP and Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, Naz Shah.
“I am absolutely honoured and delighted to be opening the nominations for Inspirational Women’s Awards 2020 for Bradford. It’s great to be recognising women in this way, so people get your nominations down and make sure you vote. Whether she is a teacher an educator, works in the volunteer sector… get nominating.” Naz Shah said to a packed crowd
Nine categories were unveiled, and people will have till 31st August midnight to send in their nominations for their most inspirational women across Bradford district.
Fatima Patel said: “Since the awards closed in 2015, every year I have been asked why the awards have stopped and to please bring them back. Now that my health is much better and with a bigger team it’s important, we continue to recognise our unsung heroines, besides it’s always a great night of celebration and networking.
The awards night will take place on Saturday 3rd October at the Bradford Hotel in Bradford.
